The Kanata Girls Hockey Association is committed to seeking better ways to keep our youth safe and providing a sport environment that promotes equal opportunities and prohibits discriminatory practices. Harassment is a form of discrimination that is prohibited by human rights legislation in Canada.  The KGHA supports the right of all its members, whether athletes, volunteers or employees to participate in all our activities, free from any form of harassment. 

A sports environment that actively mitigates risks, discourages harassment and abuse, and builds relationships based on trust and mutual respect is an environment that encourages the overall development of the individual.   In order to further this concept these pages amplify our policy, make every reasonable effort to promote awareness, and articulate how to respond swiftly and efficiently to complaints, disclosures or situations that constitute a risk.

The Kanata Girls Hockey Association is committed to creating and maintaining a risk-free and safe environment for its participants.  The KGHA regards Risk Management as a high priority. In addition to managing the factors of risk involved with the game itself, there is a mandate to reduce risks to the organization as a whole.  The goal of the Risk Management Committee (RMC) is to be a leader in risk management policy and practice. Achievement of this goal is reliant on the members of KGHA in the application of this our policy, taking adequate steps to mitigate these risks and reporting violations in a timely manner.  

 

The KGHA RMC is comprised of one representative from each of the KGHA hockey components – High performance, competitive and House League, chaired by an executive member selected by the Board of Directors. The objectives of the RMC are to:

(a)            Review and evaluate current policy and practice,

(b)            Share identified risk factors and recognize unique nature of groups,

(c)             Reduce the time between identifying a risk and addressing it, and

(d)            Make research based decisions, policies and recommendations.

 

The Risk and Safety program shall be reviewed on an annual basis by the RMC and approved by the Board of Directors.
