Special Announcement - OWHA COVID-19 Update and the Ontario Government Announcement

2021-09-03

Updated Sept 4th: The KGHA Executive wishes to share details of a Special COVID-19 Bulletin from the Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) released September 2, 2021 in response to the Government of Ontario's announcement requiring proof of vaccination to access select indoor facilities.

The KGHA adheres to the policies of the OWHA as our governing body and operates under the directives of the Ontario Government, Ottawa Public Health and our facility partners.  This is especially important as we collectively navigate the kick off of the 2021-22 hockey season during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and ensure the health and safety of our players, team staff and extended KGHA families.

With the announcement by the Government of Ontario to require proof of full vaccination (two doses plus 14 day waiting period) for access to select indoor facilities beginning on Sept. 22, 2021, the OWHA has issued this statement to membership as it reviews the associated regulations in relation to female hockey in Ontario.

This statement also requires, as a condition of participation in the OWHA (of which KGHA is a member organization), that players and other participants who were born before 2010 be fully vaccinated as soon as possible and by no later than October 17, 2021.

We understand you may have questions in light of this OWHA announcement, and would ask that you send them to communications@kgha.ca.
  • We are interpretting this direction from the OWHA to apply to players and team staff (coaches, assistant coaches, on-ice helpers, trainers and den moms) who interact with players.
  • We are actively seeking direction from the OWHA and the Province of Ontario on exemptions should a player or participant be ineligible for vaccination due to medical reasons.
  • Should you wish to withdraw your player as a result of this statement, the KGHA will amend our Refund policy to waive the Administrative fee and provide a 100% refund as follows:
    • COVID related withdrawal by September 10th at 5:00pm for players currenlty registered for the 2021-22 Competitive Tryout process and 2021-22 Seasons
    • COVID related withdrawal by September 17th for players currently registered for the 2021-22 House program
    • Requests for withdrawals to be sent to registrar@kgha.ca
The KGHA Executive will continue to provide updates to the membership as they become available.
