Important Info RE: Upcoming Competitive Tryouts

2019-04-18

Please read on for some key information that will be helpful as the KGHA tryouts commence.

PRE-TRYOUT REQUIREMENTS

Please ensure you have read and understand the KGHA Registration Policy.  The policy can be found HERE.

Please read the Coach Welcome Letters that pertain to your child's age level.  All of the letters can be found HERE.

Please check the tryout schedule to ensure you have the correct dates/times/rinks.  The entire tryout schedule can be found HERE.

Ensure your child's tryout jersey is picked up in advance of the tryout sessions during the time(s) allotted to your specific age grouping.  The pickup schedule can be found HERE.

Please review the new Import Policy and Amnesty Clause that the KGHA has struck with three neighboring associations.  The policy can be found HERE.

Talk to your children and set the expectation.  Tryouts can be a nervous time but the goal should be to have fun, work hard and do their best.  Regardless of the outcomes, every child will have a place in the KGHA next season, whether at a competitive level or not - and playing hockey (regardless of level) is what it's all about.

Understand that no players are permitted to tryout for older/younger age groups with which their current age does not align.  Players are only permitted to tryout for the age group of which their birthday dictates.

DRESSING ROOM ETIQUETTE

Please check the dressing room door for posted jersey colour designations, as required.

Den Moms will be on premise and available in the dressing room(s) to assist players as required.  Males are not allowed in the dressing room(s). Players requiring male help with skates and equipment, when needed, shall be done outside the room(s).  Only females and authorized Den Moms are allowed.  Male parents are permitted in the dressing room(s) for the purpose of a Coach's meeting only, once all players have vacated the room prior.

No cellphones are permitted inside the dressing room(s).  No photos or videos are permitted to be shot in the dressing room(s) either.

RELEASES

All tryout communications and releases will come via the KGHA website (www.kgha.ca).  Please visit the TEAMS section of the menu to find your child's age level (link HERE).  Teams listed with the level and Coach's name are the 2019-2020 team pages.  All releases will be posted to the website within two hours of the tryout having finished, unless extenuating circumstances arise.

Players may be released after session one. Only one tryout session is guaranteed.  Goalies will not be released after session one unless unforeseen circumstances dictate otherwise.

Players released are welcomed to come out for the tryouts of the next tier down. Players released at the final tier will return to house league.

Parents of released players are not to engage any members of the Evaluation, Coaching or On-Ice staff.  Any concerns or requests for information shall be directed to either the KGHA President or Competitive VP.  Tryout feedback, if requested, will not be divulged until after all KGHA tryouts have ceased at all levels.  Parents are asked to abide by the Hockey Canada '24 Hour' rule.

TRYOUT FORMAT

There will be four sessions total at each level.  Session one will be skills based.  Session two will be half skills/game situations and half scrimmage.  Sessions three and four will be scrimmages and/or exhibition games.  NextGEN Hockey has been contracted to lead sessions one and two, and those sessions will be consistent across all levels.  Referees have been contracted for sessions three and four.  There will not be any 'goalie only' evaluation sessions.  We will have specialized goalie evaluators at each session.

ATTENDANCE

Players must attend 100% of tryouts unless explicit arrangements have been made with the KGHA Executive, specifically the President and the Competitive VP.

Please note that this is an automated message and that this inbox is not monitored for replies. Any questions can be addressed to Tyler Nystedt, the Competitive VP, at vpcompetitive@kgha.ca. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
