Player Of The Month - March 2019

2019-03-06

Congrats to Sydney Smith who is this month's KGHA Player of the Month. Way to go Syd! Sydney is a member of Dan Hiel's PeeWee 2 Vipers team.

1.    How long have you been playing hockey?
I've been playing hockey for four years. I tried playing ringette for one year, but I quickly realized that I enjoy hockey way more!

2.    What position do you play?
I play defense. My defensive coach this year is Andy. He is awesome and has helped me become a better positional player. I can't thank him enough!

3.   Favourite food or pregame meal?
Pasta and chocolate milk.

4.    What is the best part of playing hockey?
I love meeting new people. My teammates this year are awesome! We laugh a lot and my older teammates teach me so much and they are great role models.

5.    What is the hardest part of playing hockey?
I started playing as a goalie and I faced a lot of pressure. Now I play defense and I love this position. I give credit to all the goalies!

6.    What is your favourite hockey memory?
I love going to out-of-town tournaments. There are soooooo many great stories to share about our away tournaments. My favourite memory is when I played goalie and we won the playoffs with a winning save in the last few seconds of the final game.

7.   Who is your favourite player?
Hayley Wickenheiser. She is an inspirational female athlete and hockey player.

8.   Favourite Sport/Activity Outside of Hockey?
Outside of hockey, I love running. I've participated in the National Capital Race Weekend in Ottawa since the age of two. I love spending time at the ODR with my older brother and my younger sister, as well as downhill skiing with my family.

9.   When you are older where do you see yourself playing hockey?
I want to continue playing hockey. I hope to play in high school with my friends. Hockey is a part of my life!
