Sending Thoughts & Prayers To The Martel Family

2019-01-24

We have some sad news to pass along to our KGHA family. We've unfortunately lost a strong member of our Ranger family this week. Marcie Martel, long-time hockey Mom and trainer, wife to long-time KGHA Coach Steve Martel and mother to Nora, passed away Tuesday after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

Marcie is a friend to all of us and has had an impact on so many. Marcie was a grade 1 teacher and had been with the OCSB for 18+ years. Her husband, Steve, is a long-time KGHA coach and currently coaches one of our Bantam HL teams. Nora is 13 and is an active Kanata Ranger. Marcie was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer during the spring of 2016. Since then, she had battled hard and lived life to the fullest. The loss of Marcie leaves an empty space in many hearts across the KGHA. Marcie lived her life with grace, love, humility, humour, thoughtfulness and most of all, she lived it unselfishly.

Arrangements have been made and visitations will be Thursday, January 31 from 2-4PM and again from 6-9PM at Kelly's Funeral Home (580 Eagleson Drive, Kanata). A service will be held Friday, February 1 at 11AM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kanata. Marcie's entire family is in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and we wish them to know that the entire KGHA is behind them and sending strength their way.
