Share KGHA Mourns A Former Member & Coach
2018-12-06
The KGHA is saddened and sends it's sincerest condolences to the KMHA and the O'Brien family on the loss on Mike.Mike had strong ties to the KGHA. His daughter, Hannah (2000), was a long time KGHA player and his niece, Jordyn (2002), is a current player in our Midget Competitive program. He was also a dedicated and much-loved KGHA coach for players born in 1999-2001.
Mike was also a longtime coach with the KMHA, our brother program. Mike touched so many minor hockey players' lives during his 13+ years coaching with the Kanata Minor Hockey Association. He was recognized multiple times with coach of the year awards and deservedly so. Most recently, Mike had been reffing with KMHA as well.
Mike's obituary says it best... He loved to play the game, ref the game and most of all to coach. Each year he was grateful for the opportunity to share his love of the game with his players. Coach Mike knew how to bring fun to the game and much of his success could be attributed to that. He always said that hockey taught him more about himself and life that he could have ever imagined.
The KGHA and the KMHA are better for having had Mike as part of our team for so many years. He will be sadly missed by our community and our hockey family.
