Holiday
Challenge
#AdoptAFamily
- The Kanata Food Cupboard Christmas #AdoptAFamily program assisted 523 families last year (approximately 1900 adults and children).
- There were approximately 200 families that were not adopted in 2017, so the Kanata Food Cupboard assisted those families.
Over the month of November and into December, the KGHA is challenging teams to help the Kanata Food Cupboard in three key ways:
- Adopt a Family Challenge http://www.kanatafoodcupboard.ca/adoptafamily
- Donate Food
- Toiletry donations
CHALLENGE 1 - Each KGHA team is challenged to Adopt a Family
Please see this link for information on how to adopt a family and provide targeted holiday support.
http://www.kanatafoodcupboard.ca/adoptafamily #AdoptAFamily
With 39 teams in the association, we could potentially adopt 39 families and help them get through the holidays. Let us know if you are adopting a team - send email to fundraising@kgha.ca
CHALLENGE 2 - Food Donations
The KGHA is also challenging teams to donate food to the Food Cupboard. Teams may
drop off food at the Food Cupboard at the dates and times listed below.
Kanata Food Cupboard, 340 Legget Drive, Door #46
Saturday, November 17 (12:00 pm - 1:30 pm)
December 1 (4:00pm - 5:00pm)
December 15 (anytime between 7am - 1:30pm)
Food items that are in high demand include:
- Canned tomatoes
- Rice
- Canned fruit
- Baking goods (i.e. sugar, flour)
- Baby food (in jars)
The Kanata Food Cupboard assists approximately
800 people on average per month (or approximately 215 families on average per month). With so many families in need in Kanata, we hope that the KGHA community can help the Kanata Food Cupboard out over the holidays.
CHALLENGE 3 - Toiletry Donations
In addition to food, families are also in need of toiletries. This is particularly acute during the holidays for families that have not been adopted. Please target delivery of team donations for mid-November to allow for the Cupboard to assemble packages for families. Donations can be dropped off at the KGHA Tournament 50/50 table, Bell Sensplex, between November 16-18.
More about the Kanata Food Cupboard.
- Healthy food choices are offered such as milk, eggs, rice, pasta, yogurt, and fresh fruit and vegetables.
- In addition to our regular food program, the Kanata Food Cupboard also provides additional assistance at back-to-school time (providing school supplies), at Thanksgiving, Easter, and also at Christmas.
- There are, on average, approximately 200 volunteers that give their time and energy to the Kanata Food Cupboard each and every month.
The KGHA has committed to working throughout this year with the Kanata Food Cupboard to help local families while also giving players a chance to support the community and the Food Cupboard. Please let us know at
fundraising@kgha.ca how your team is meeting this challenge.
