Share Milligan's late goal helps Lady Sens earn weekend split
2017-09-26
Fiona Milligan's shot from the point eluded the Bluewater Hawks netminder with just
3:26 remaining in the game Sept. 23, restoring the lead the Ottawa Lady Sens had relinquished earlier in the third period, and lifting them to a 4-2 win.
Milligan's game winner highlighted the Lady Sens' split of their two PWHL home games on the weekend. The Lady Sens (2-1-1) were shutout 4-0 by the Durham West Lightning (1-1) in Sunday's match at the Goulbourn Recreation Complex.
In the win over Bluewater (0-1-2), Cassidy Michalicka and Kathryn Stockdale scored goals in the first and second periods, respectively, and Maddison Stitt added an empty netter with just 25 seconds remaining in regulation to ice the win. Stockdale's goal was the first PWHL goal for the 15-year-old rookie.
Offensive zone penalties and a lack of scoring opportunities were the Lady Sens undoing in Sunday's affair as the Lightning outshot the Lady Sens 10-5 in the third period and 22-18 overall.
The Lady Sens take to the road for the first time this PWHL season with games against Cambridge (
Sept. 29), Kitchener-Waterloo (
Sept. 30) and Brampton (
Oct. 1)
