Karen Holzhuter served over 20 years in various roles in the KGHA
"My earliest memories of Karen were KGHA registration. I am guessing 2002. She was there. Organized. Smiling. Kind to newbie parents like us. She made it easy and pleasant. I thought "this woman knows everything"
Turns out she did know everything. Not only did she know everything, she could do anything and would do anything, to make the KGHA experience wonderful for your kids and for mine.
When I joined the executive she was generous with me. Giving me her time and her advice. As the presidency transitioned from Ray Grandis to me, she was gracious and engaged. She answered any and all questions, responding to emails, it seemed, 24/7.
The Holzhuter dedication was a team sport. There are 20 years of KGHA players who either played on a team with a Holzhuter or were coached by one, Kate or Klaus. Our fundamentals program would not have existed for many years without the Holzhuter family.
What I appreciate most about Karen, and her whole family is their dedication to our community. They are truly philanthropic. They give constantly. Their time, their passion and their energy and Karen is their Captain. She cares so deeply about Kanata. She volunteers at school, for the community and they equally gave time to KMHA, not just KGHA.
She never stops smiling. Hours at registration, hours at tournaments, house league or competitive, the last person through the door was treated as cheerfully as the first.
Karen is why communities thrive. She is a an inspiration and a bright light for so many of us.
I thank Karen for all she has done, all she has given, for her leadership and for her friendship. The saw us through good days and some dark days. We as a community and as a hockey association are so much better for her service."
